P Vasu eyes Japan

“Japan has a lot to offer in terms of stunning landscapes and technological advancements. It is the right place to shoot films”, popular director P Vasu said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the five-day Japanese Film Festival in Chennai, which is a retrospective of the celebrated Japanese director Kon Ichikawa, who has made numerous award-winning films based on novels.

Pointing out that no Tamil film had been shot in Japan after ‘Ulagum Sutrum Vaaliban,’ Vasu urged in his address that Tamil filmmakers should explore the country and also learn their art of filmmaking.

Consul-General of Japan Kazuo Minagawa, Madras Film Society executive vice-president K S Govindaraj, secretary A G Raghupathy, actress Lasya and others spoke on the occasion.

The film festival is being organised by Consulate General of Japan, Madras Film Society and Japan Foundation. Four films are to be screened till Saturday, at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.
